The parents/family meetings are specifically for the families of children newly diagnosed until the child reaches school age, and providing information and education on their inherited bleeding disorder; assistance and advice from other families on negotiating their way through the hospital system; how to identify bleeds; adjusting to a stay in hospital; having ports inserted; parenting of children with inherited bleeding disorders; and, inclusion of siblings in receiving information and acceptance of diagnosis by extended family. Meetings are usually held at a café in close proximity to a playground.
